ABOUT US
Who is St. Anthony?
St. Anthony is regarded as the father of all monks and a pioneer of Christian monasticism. He is known by many names such as Anthony the Great (Ancient Greek: Ἀντώνιος ὁ Μέγας Antónios ho̅ Me̅́gas; Arabic: القديس أنطونيوس الكبير; Latin: Antonius; Coptic: Ⲁⲃⲃⲁ Ⲁⲛⲧⲱⲛⲓ;
He was born around 250 A.D. in Kamen-El-Aroos, a city in Upper Egypt.
After losing his parents before the age of twenty, he was inspired by a verse from the Bible to sell all he had, give to the poor, and seek treasure in heaven.
He obeyed the scripture, gave away his wealth, and began a life of solitude in the desert near the Red Sea.
His spiritual dedication attracted many people who sought his prayers and blessings.
St. Anthony died in 356 A.D., and his departure is commemorated on January 30 (22 Touba in the Coptic calendar).
The blessing Of our blessed St. Anthony be with us. Amen.
